As promised, Dua Lipa has shared her new song “Houdini,” a track co-produced by Danny L Harle and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. On top of producing, Parker is credited with playing drums, guitars, keyboards, and more on the track. Caroline Ailin, who co-wrote Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” and her Barbie single, “Dance the Night,” worked with the singer again for “Houdini,” as did co-writer Tobias Jesso Jr. Watch the new “Houdini” music video—made with director Manu Cossu and cinematographer André Chemetoff—below.
As described in a press release, “Houdini” is “the beginning of a new chapter” for Dua Lipa. “This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom,” the musician stated. “‘Houdini’ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.”
Earlier this year, in a profile for T: The New York Times Style Magazine, it was revealed that Dua Lipa’s third studio album is set to arrive in 2024. In the profile, it was suggested that Lipa had been working with Kevin Parker.
Since releasing 2020’s Future Nostalgia and its full-length remix companion, Dua Lipa has featured in the spy thriller Argylle and Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster Barbie. She also recently bought back the rights to her publishing catalog.
