Florida post-hardcore band Gouge Away have announced their first new album in six years. Deep Sage arrives on March 15 via Deathwish Inc. New song and album opener “Stuck in a Dream” is out now, and it comes with a music video, directed by Caleb Gowett, in which Gouge Away tear through the song in front of prom-like decorations, giant balloons included. Watch it below.
Deep Sage started to take shape in 2019 while Gouge Away were touring in support of their sophomore album, 2018’s Burnt Sugar. The band demoed songs in 2020 with engineer Brok Mende, but were forced to put their plans on hold during the pandemic. Several years and relocations later, Gouge Away reassembled in Portland, Oregon, just before New Years Eve 2022 to finish the material and, months later, holed up at Atomic Garden East with producer Jack Shirley to record Deep Sage.
“Stuck in a Dream” is the second song Gouge Away have released from Deep Sage, following last year’s “Idealized.” While Burnt Sugar was their most recent full-length, they did release the 7" single “Consider b/w Wave of Mutilation” in 2020. Gouge Away also appeared on “Burn Your House Down” from the HIRS Collective’s 2023 album, We’re Still Here.
