If you’re listening to underground Atlanta rappers right now, you’ll want to keep your finger over the volume button. Sometimes it’s because they’re prone to break out into hellish shrieks (see: L5) and other times it’s because they rap like they’re faded in a library (see: Anycia). Glorygirl2950 isn’t quite as extreme, but on “Dior Skirt” she alternates battering ad libs (recently most associated with 2Sdxrt3all) and a shrill, scream-rap flow that catches me off guard every time. Even with all that going on, it’s a stylish-sounding song: sprinkled with swagged-out Bear1boss-style melodies and a rage-driven guitar beat so hard that I’m sure Destroy Lonely is jealous.
With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.
